Spaghetti squash recipe brought to you by GE Appliances.
Spaghetti squash can be more than just a substitute for pasta! This recipe makes a meatless-main dish perfect for any dinner, especially when paired with a salad. When this dish is bubbling away in the oven, you know it’s going to be a good night.
1 spaghetti squash, about 3 pounds
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
Freshly ground pepper
3 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped (1/4 cup basil leaves)
1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Cook the squash:
Place squash cut-sides-down in a microwave-safe baking dish. Fill the dish with about 1 inch of water.
Microwave on high for about 12 minutes, or until you can easily pierce the squash with a fork. Cooking time depends on the size of the squash and individual microwaves, so if you have a smaller squash and a microwave that cooks fast, check a little earlier. And if you are cooking a larger squash and have a lower-power microwave, it may take a little longer.
Allow squash to cool for 10 minutes, then scoop out the flesh with a fork to separate the spaghetti-like strands and then chop coarsely. Measure out 4 cups squash. (You can save any extra squash for another dish or freeze for later.)
Prepare the casserole:
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Lightly oil a 2-quart baking dish and set aside.
Heat the olive oil, over medium heat, in a large skillet. Add the onion and cook until tender, about five minutes. Add the garlic and a generous pinch of salt. Cook while stirring for another 30 seconds to a minute until fragrant. Add the squash. Cook, stirring often, for five minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper, and remove from the heat.
In a large bowl, beat the eggs with the milk, salt, and pepper. Stir in the squash mixture, basil and the Gruyere cheese. Pour into the baking dish. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
Bake 40 to 45 minutes until the casserole top is browned and sizzling. Remove from oven, and cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Casserole can be served hot, warm or at room temperature.
Once the plans are laid and the perfect appliances are picked, usually the last thing we consider is, “will it fit?” While you may have your heart set on specific models with a certain look, it is possible you have not considered making enough room. Those old appliances can be quite smaller and shaped differently than the newer improved appliances that you are considering to buy. Our Warehouse Discount Center Measurement Guides will ease this process and allow for a much quicker installation.
Here at WDC we care about the success of your appliances. We want to ensure you don’t incur any additional costs and headaches dealing with returns or having to make adjustments to your space. So, we created individual Measurement Guides for laundry, dishwashers, and refrigerators. These guides take you step by step on how to measure your kitchen and/or laundry space correctly. It is important to take into account height, width, and length of each appliance. Make sure to look around your placement area and note any obstacles or impediments. For washing machines, this measurement is critical especially if you will be purchasing the optional pedestals for front-load washing machines. If your new appliances need to be plugged in, make sure the correct plugs are located nearby.
Please visit our Measurement Guide page where you can review and download the guides applicable to your purchase.
A measurement off by as little as 1/4 inch can turn the excitement of your new purchase into a major inconvenience. Double-checking your measurements will help you with a smooth purchase, delivery and installation of your home appliances. These measurements are not required, but these Measurement Guides will allow you peace of mind in purchasing the correctly sized models to fit in your home. We care about your appliances and want you to have the best experience possible. As the old saying goes; measure twice, buy once!

Purchasing replacement water filters usually isn’t our top priority. In addition to simply remembering to replace the water filter, the cost of some filters can be expensive. While it may be tempting to save a few dollars by purchasing off-brand water filters, it is important not to compromise your family’s well-being. Buying off-brand filters can lead to a breach in quality control as filters many do not reach NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) standards. The NSA regulates filters in filtering out pesticides, lead, asbestos, and mercury contaminates in our water.
So while it is understandable to try and find deals when replacing light bulbs, filters, and parts for our appliances, it’s absolutely critical that drinking water stays clean and safe for consumption. Remember to also clean all trays and surfaces that come in contact with ice and water inside your appliance every few months. This will prevent hard water build-up and bacteria.
On top of family health concerns, buying imitation water filters can damage your appliances. There are no standards or guarantees that protect your appliances from counterfeit filters. Falsely advertised filters can clog and cause appliances to malfunction. It is always important to check that the size of of your water filter. There is no way to guarantee off-brand filters are the correct specifications for your appliance.
To keep your appliances running smoothly and preventing costly repairs, remember to only purchase filters recommended by your appliance’s manufacture. Don’t risk your family’s health to save a few dollars. Be cautious of any exceedingly cheap filters. Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is!

Who wouldn’t love a personal assistant, or gourmet chef in the kitchen?
Sometimes making a quality dinner after a long day at work is not what we have in mind. After shopping for and prepping the ingredients, pre-heating the oven, and of course the cooking, there is little time left to enjoy your meal. But these concerns have been addressed, and in 2017 a personal home robot chef will be cooking your meals for you!
This is no clunky fumbling machine. Moley Robotics technology is so advanced, even NASA incorporates it into their systems. Moley has designed a robot that imitates human movement to create precise measuring, stirring , and cooking. The prototype was programmed by watching famous chefs create signature dishes. The chef’s movements were recorded and implemented into the robots actions for a precise cooking experience. The robot chef can be asked to either prep ingredients or complete an entire dish.
Moley will complete the set by offering their own refrigerator and dishwasher, offering easy access for cleanup and grabbing ingredients. In addition to doing your cooking, the robot chef will even do the dishes! No more worrying about cleaning up or wiping counters, because it will be a breeze with this smart mechanical assistant. Just relax, put on some tunes and let the robot chef do the cooking for you.
According Moley, they will have a consumer version available sometime in 2017. The robot chef will easily be controlled from your smart device and will come pre-programmed with thousands of recipes. Another cool feature is that you can even upload your favorite meals to its database. While this all sounds too good to be true, the first robo-chefs will set you back about $15,000. But, as with all new advances, the price should drop in the coming years as the technology becomes more understood and researched.
Could this robot make your grandmothers famous apple pie just as good? We’ll let you decide.

World’s First Counter-top Induction Oven.
Do you wish you had more time to prepare healthy, fresh, homemade meals? Do you want the convenience of a microwave, the ability to grill indoors, and easy baking while being compact like the size of a toaster oven? This past May, Panasonic just revealed the world’s first counter-top induction oven. Panasonic says it will have the makings of other larger kitchen appliances in a compact size. This invention is the product of over 40 years of technology advances and testing. Now, it brings you something absolutely revolutionary.
The induction oven can grill, toast, bake, and reheat in a fraction of the time it takes with conventional ovens. Microwaves can reheat food quickly, but much of the flavor is lost and many dishes can end up soggy or overdone. The induction heating allows you to heat food up without losing that flavor and bring crisp dishes back their original crunch. Traditional ovens typically need to be pre-heated for the best results in baking. With the compact size of the induction oven, no pre-heating is necessary for cookies, cakes, and pies.
Grilling in Panasonic’s counter-top induction oven ensures your steaks are charred on the outside, and pink on the inside. No more overdone pork or chicken, the counter-top oven perfectly cooks and seals in juices making sure you get the most flavor from your meats. Panasonic has even gone so far as to add special coating on the oven to reduce stains and splatters from sticking. Just clean up with a towel, or place in the dishwasher.
Not only will this device make cooking homemade meals easier, but also reduce cleanup time and energy costs. Operating with less power, and more efficiency means a smaller energy bill for you. Thus, allowing you to spend more on quality ingredients and the extra time from efficient cooking to spend with your family.
While not available in stores yet, there are plans for the release in 2017.
