Supply Chain FAQs
Q: Are appliances and plumbing products experiencing delays?
A: Yes. We are currently seeing delays from all Manufacturers as a result of global material shortages and logistical challenges.
Q: What is causing these delays?
A: The first setback came when many of the Chinese manufacturing plants that build components or assemble goods for global manufacturers were shut down by Coronavirus outbreaks. Similar disruptions soon spread across the globe, affecting both manufacturers and the logistics companies that ship, store and deliver their goods. This along with an unprecedented demand for home appliances created an unparalleled bottleneck in the appliance industry.
Q: How long could it take to receive a product from the time it is ordered?
A: Although we have more than $20 Million in stock on the most popular products, we may not have the exact item you want. We encourage customers to plan ahead to allow extra lead time for their products to be delivered. The length of delays varies from product to product on a daily basis.
Q: What products are back-ordered, and for how long?
A: We are currently seeing delays across all product categories – cooking, refrigeration, dishwashers, laundry, barbeques, mattresses and plumbing fixtures. Delays have been as short as 6 weeks and as long as 8 months. We encourage customers to plan ahead to allow extra lead time for their products to be delivered. The length of delays varies from product to product on a daily basis.
Q: Is the ongoing semiconductor shortage affecting Appliances?
A: Yes. Not only is the semiconductor shortage affecting the production of many home appliances but also other products that consumers have come to rely upon in their daily lives. Semiconductors are one of many critical components needed for electronic control panels to operate.
Q: Which products use semiconductors?
A: Semiconductors are used in all product categories that utilize electronic components.
Q: When do you expect things to return to normal for appliance deliveries?
A: We expect conditions to be challenging for the foreseeable future. We encourage customers to plan ahead to allow extra lead time for their products to be delivered. The length of delays varies from product to product on a daily basis.
Q: Will this delay affect my ability to participate in promotional program/savings?
A: If your purchase is part of an instant rebate program, we will still fulfill your order with the full program benefits you’ve chosen in the event that the manufacture cannot fulfill your order prior to the rebate expiration date.
Q: Why has the delivery estimate for my product changed?
A: Unfortunately there are many unforeseeable supply chain shortages and logistical challenges that can change daily and impact delivery and lead times. We will do our best to communicate the information provided to us by the manufacturers as we receive it.
Q: Will WDC store my merchandise indefinitely?
A: While we are committed to helping where we can, the short answer to this is no. Due to material delays in the general construction space, nearly every construction project is behind schedule. This means that we are carrying 300% of the normal inventory storage vs pre-pandemic levels, making it impossible for us to provide long-term storage.
Q: How do I prepare for a successful remodel, considering all of the above?
A: This is a great question. While there is no way to prepare for all outcomes, we have found that ordering and storing merchandise on the job site in advance of installation is the best way to ensure that your project stays on schedule. Our Sales and Customer Service Teams are placing an emphasis on fulfilling these orders at the earliest possible time to avoid unexpected delays from bringing your construction to a standstill.
