Replacement for problem prone GE compactor
Submitted 11-10-20
Replaced the GE compactor a couple of weeks ago after fighting it for about four years. The new Whirlpool was easy to install and level and works fine. The only problem is the placement of the foot switch to operate the compactor. It is to low and I am constantly hitting it with my toe when working at the counter.
Just OK

I love that we have much less trash now, but the compactor makes a horrible noise at the end of compacting, and we've only had it a few months. We'll see how easy it is to get someone out here to look at it.
Disappointing!

This is the second trash compactor I've owned, the first was a Kenmore. The Kenmore has an extra pack feature which the Whirlpool doesn't have, which significantly limits the capacity before having to change out the bags. I regret not researching the extra pack feature, and if the Kenmore wasn't white, I would install it in my new kitchen instead of the Whirlpool. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Nice Looking on the Outside!

I bought two of these units in May 2015 and waited several weeks for them to arrive. Now I have them and they both operate in a very strange way. When you press the floor pedal, the trash drawers kick hard to right banging the adjacent cabinet and then they rattle and vibrate as the drawer opens out towards you. The root cause is that the drawers are out of sqaure. I know this because I compared the drawers to my old Whirlpool units from 15 years ago. Those drawers are square and they open sttraight out, nice and smooth. Whirlpool clearly has a factory assembly quality issue with these units! So, if you want trash compactors that bang your cabinets when they open and rattle, these would be good units to own.
Great
