Event Recap: California Wildfire Relief Open House

California wildfires in 2018 have been devastating to many homes in the Ventura, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties. Countless more people had their lives upended in evacuations or partial burn damage. As the largest family-owned appliance store in the area, we felt the need to help the communities we’ve been installing appliances in since 1982.

Happy First Day of Autumn, Home Made Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe Anyone?

YUM, #psl are in season now! What better way to kick off Fall than a home made version of this delicious coffee treat. Check out the recipe below. Hint: this can be substituted to be vegan!

The Best Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe

  • PREP
  • COOK
  • TOTAL

Make the popular coffee house pumpkin latte at home. Canned or homemade pumpkin puree both work well in this recipe.

Makes 2 Drinks

YOU WILL NEED

2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy)
2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
1 to 3 tablespoons sugar, depending on how sweet you like it
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, plus more for serving
1/2 cup strong hot coffee
Whipped cream, for serving

DIRECTIONS

Add milk, pumpkin puree, and sugar to a saucepan over medium heat. Heat until hot, but do not boil. Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, and the coffee.

Divide the mixture between two mugs. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.

TIPS

  • Milk: This tastes best with 2% or whole milk, but you can substitute with skim milk. Non-dairy milk like soy, almond, or coconut milk will also work.
  • Sugar: This recipe calls for 1 to 3 tablespoons of sugar. How much you use is up to you. We tend to prefer less sugar in our drinks. You can also use a sugar substitute. Add this to taste.
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice Blend: Find pumpkin pie spice at the store or make it at home. You likely have everything you need to make it already. Mix the following spices in a spice jar: 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon + 2 teaspoons ground ginger + 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg + a pinch of ground cloves.

Looking for a sweet treat this warm August weekend? Try something different with this delicious twist on traditional cheese cake, this is sure to be a family favorite!

Ingredients

Crust:

1 cup packaged chocolate cookie crumbs (such as Oreo)

2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon butter or stick margarine, melted

Cooking spray

Filling: 3 (8-ounce) blocks fat-free cream cheese, softened

1 (8-ounce) block 1/3-less-fat cream cheese, softened

1 (8-ounce) carton low-fat sour cream

1 1/2 cups sugar

1 1/2 cups mashed ripe banana

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

4 large eggs

Toppings:

1/3 cup canned crushed pineapple in juice, drained

1/3 cup strawberry sundae syrup

1/3 cup chocolate syrup

1/4 cup chopped pecans, toasted

16 maraschino cherries, drained

Sliced banana for topping

How to Make It

Step 1
Preheat oven to 325°.

Step 2
To prepare crust, combine first 3 ingredients in a bowl; toss with a fork until moist. Press into bottom of a 9-inch springform pan coated with cooking spray.

Step 3
To prepare filling, beat cheeses and sour cream at high speed of a mixer until smooth. Add 1 1/2 cups sugar, banana, flour, and vanilla; beat well. Add eggs, 1 at a time; beat well after each addition.

Step 4
Pour cheese mixture into prepared pan; bake at 325° for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until almost set. Cheesecake is done when the center barely moves when pan is touched.
